Quick Weight Loss - Is it Possible?

Quick weight loss? How quick is quick? And how much weight?

All are good questions. And I'll bet you can find at least 5 different answers to each and every question. Most low calorie, high exercise diets can really drop pounds quickly. In fact most serious and healthy diets start off with very stringent first 1-2 weeks activities.

That's to shock your body into fat burning mode if possible. Not all people respond in the same way though. Some won't see immediate results, for some it may take up to 8 or 9 days. That's the catch on all diets, they are very dependent on the health and condition of the dieter.

Many of the diet supplements (diet pills, shakes, herbal supplements, etc.) can produce quick weight loss. They severally cut back the calories you intake since you don't eat one meal per day. That takes out one third or more of your daily calories.

The problems associated with Quick Weight Loss diets are they usually have health repercussions and are not maintainable over a longer period of time. If you quit skipping one meal, the weight loss will most likely stop too.

The more severe the initial plan is, the harder it will be to stay the course for long. You can only starve yourself for so long before bad things happen to your health. Your body has to have fuel, even to burn the fat you want to burn.

Certain high fiber and protein foods enhance the fat burning process, like eggs, fish, fish oils, nuts and seeds, oatmeal, and olive oil just to name a few. The reason is that it takes more effort to digest protein than fat.

And any diet program that promises 10 pounds in less than 5 days is going to have to be extreme. A good and acceptable (and often hard to hit for many dieters) rate of weight loss is 1-2 pounds a week. Many of these quick weight loss plans rely on water and muscle loss, which is not a good thing in the short or long term.

I've been researching different diet plans for the past year. Using myself as the guinea pig, I've tried more crazy stuff than I'd like to admit. But I wanted to see for myself if any of these quick weight loss methods worked.

Some did work in some fashion or another. A few made me sick so I didn't want to eat, so I lost weight. Some flushed my system using diuretics, foods that make you urinate often. Water is heavy and when you start dumping it, you lose weight.

Others replaced entire meals with diet pills or supplements. That wasn't much fun and also not good for the digestive system. I don't care how good some herbs or vitamins might be for you, too much can cause health problems too.

So are there any weight loss secrets that can produce quick weight loss? If there are, I never found them, and I looked and tried some pretty foolish methods. Some of these fast weight loss methods worked, but most won't do as much as they say, and they could have a negative impact on your health. Most rely on unhealthy eating habits and go for short-term results that can be detrimental in the long run.

Think about it for a minute, 1-2 pounds a week adds up quick. That's a possible 8 pounds a month, which should be enough to spur any motivated dieter forward. And not all diets work for all people. You may have to try out a few different diet plans to find the one that works for you.

And depending on your particular circumstances, many people do get some higher than normal weight loss the first 1-2 weeks on many diets, although it can be water. The first 1-2 week period is often the biggest 2-week weight loss, pound for pound.

I have friends that couldn't gain weight if they had too, and others who just say food and gain a pound or two. We all have different metabolisms, health states, and physical condition. And any realistic and effective diet recommends some type of exercise to accompany the lower caloric intake.

So if you really want quick weight loss, you might just want to start your diet earlier to hit a self imposed deadline (like a social event, summer clothes, or seeing your ex-whatever). Quick fixes never last long, and often never achieve the stated weight loss.

The bottom line in weight loss is to find what works for you. Look for diet plans that have well balanced meals, exercise recommendations, and help you change to a more healthy eating routine. Quick fixes won't work for the long term and can be detrimental to your health.
